Love the video, but the music is so distracting. I want to listen to you, but dude, maybe ambient music should have been used.

I’ve lived in Hastings for 40 years. Whilst I recognise the down at heel condition of the town and the social issues that come with poverty, I still love Hastings. The town has character that many other seaside towns lack. When the incumbent Tory MP is voted out next week then I believe that Hastings will improve and hopefully blossom to its true potential.

Grew up there in the 70s, junior school in Margit, senior school in Ramsgit, then Coventry polytechnic. Went back rarely & emigrated to Aus. From what I can tell, the Tories condemned the UK over decades with their tax cuts & favouring their big business mates whilst Brexit & Farage in particular, were the last nail in British industry. Lack of investment in public services & selling out to overseas interests led to London being the only place worth living & working, whilst retiring to the countyside is a must. A sad story with only a few, British owned shiny diamonds left in the industrial sector. Good luck y'all.

Margate is a shit hole' the people are not friendly its depressing and i would never go back there' i absolutely h8 the place Ramsgate and Broadstairs ain't that much better' you still have the riffraff spoiling it for everybody else..

I used to go shopping here in the early 1960s. In those days, the shopping centre was very modern and convenient. There were plenty of places to park and a good variety of shops. It's a pity that it seems to have been in decline for the best part of sixty years!

Lived there from 74 to 92 age 8 till 26. Remember the train station and hospital being built. It was a great place to be a kid. They had “play leader” youth clubs for after school. Schools had youth discos on Friday nights and there were plenty of sports activities and clubs. Athletics, swimming,cycling , rugby whatever you wanted. Plenty of good pubs with live music too when I became an adult. The place started going down in late 80s when rave scene and drugs started. People started getting nasty thinking they were all gangster. Then you had them twats like Mahooney and Tate who proper wrecked the place. There are plenty of nice people in Basildon. Place has gone to shit because of poor parenting and a reduced police force. A lot of the immigrants bring a lovely refreshing change to the shitbag white chavs who were born there.

My birthplace, my dad still lives here, so I come occasionally for visit. Learned to drive here with BSM in the early 90's.

Well ,nothing in your video showed anything dangerous or were you to scared to go into the center. Or are you from Eastbourne tourist board trying to gain visitors. Loads go to Hastings for weeked from london for a jolly .seems no more dangerous than most places .

Basildon was the first town I lived in the UK when we arrived to the UK in 1991. I was 6 years old at the time. My mum and dad worked as doctors in the hospital and we lived close by. I remember shopping at Eastgate and loved going to the Toys R Us near by. Although we lived there for only a year before my parents got jobs elsewhere I will always have fond memories of the town and my primary school Lee Chapel.

The only danger is being in the wrong place, at the wrong time, faced with the wrong individual(s). That can happen literally anywhere. If you are not on your guard everywhere, you will be caught out.

There is plenty going for our wonderful little island, if only people would highlight the good more, like the wildlife, beaches and community. It could be so much better if we weren't treated as second fiddle to Sittingbourne, the councils no1 play thing!

Who reviews a seaside resort during the colder months? Even when it isn't at its best, think you need to rethink your journalistic ethics, very poorly done

Compared to London it’s great. The parks are beautiful and plentiful. Basildon lacks decent jobs and pay which is why retail is suffering. Crime rears its ugly head when poverty is widespread. Solution is better paying jobs and more work availability. Needs a complete investment to rebuild many areas to be more beautiful looking especially east gate and west gate. Transport needs improving and better roads and pedestrian access on the duel carriage ways as the bridges aren’t convenient or adequate. I’ve lived here for 4 years and I’m always looking for solutions that would improve the area. Apart from the above I love living in Basildon.

My parents and my siblings moved to Basildon from London in the '70s it was Lovely and Clean you could walk around Basildon and never worried about crime. I grew up in Basildon in the early '70s and then the '80s and went to school here my family lived in Basildon for 32 years and I loved living in Basildon. But now it is dirty empty shops everywhere and the crime is so high because Essex police can't be asked I remember going to Basildon town center on a Saturday packed with shoppers and I still have that image in my head the last time I went to Basildon its smelly dirty people begging for money kids screaming and shouting it's horrible Basildon has been ruined. But Pitsea is the same In the 70s and 80s Pitsea was a nice place on a Saturday you had the market on lots of kids like me used to go swimming now it is dirty and horrible and a no-go area you can not be in Basildon or Pitsea late now it's too dangerous. It is the government and councils' fault Basildon/Pitsea is a dump now. 😡

When living in Hove I looked at a property there to buy. Upon arriving I witnessed alcoholics arguing and the general rundown state of the place. Thankfully I chose not to buy there. What a sh!thole.

I haven't been to Margate for many years. The last time I went there, Dreamland was still in operation! I remember Margate as the home of Hornby Model Railways. They issued a resin model of the clock tower you feature in this video as a Skaledale item. Thanks for uploading

Spent many happy days on the sands as a child, with my parents and sister, in the 50s. We lived in Dover, but our beach was pebbly, so we went on the bus to Folkestone. There was an open air swimming pool further along the seafront to the west, where we used to go in the 60s; it was unheated, but usually packed…….. Our great-auntie lived in Folkestone, and sometimes we stayed with her. She used to take us down to the Warren, which we also loved for its wildness. Very happy days.

We stopped there for a few days an had no complaints for the price, we did B&B and thought it we good value.

Chatham is far, far worse

I've lived here 60 years . Its so run down now , worse than ever. Hardly any shops open now not worth a trip into town. There's nothing to do in town either. With Asda closing soon we wont even have a supermarket. I would love to move out of the area.

You must've missed all the fashioin-victim, town fetishist, hipster wankers that have moved in over the last few years and, now, following a few years behind the trend, the older, monied types looking for a second home. I can't make one single journey now without seeing some 'Margate as mecca' idiot or other. Saw a grown man of about 35 wearing a multi-coloured neon shellsuit and Pac-Man baseball cap today. It's like living in an episode of Nathan Barley. It's been a steady rise the last few years but has really exploded this year, and will only get worse by the summer. House prices are on the rise and the rental market is naffed coz the tossers are buying all the flats and airbnbing them. All for fashion and the power of suggestion.
